A sword is a historical weapon with sharp blade used for cutting and thrusting opponents. There are many different types of swords such as Celtic sword, Roman sword, Ninja sword, Samurai sword, Pirate swords, Excalibur sword, Military sword, Medieval sword, Wallace sword, Fencing rapiers etc. The sword is the weapon most associated with Medieval Europe. There were short swords, single-handed swords (simply referred to as swords), bastard swords, long swords, great swords, cut and thrust swords, small swords, rapiers and an endless variety of swords in between that combined the qualities of several.`

A simple sword with two sharping blades on its sides is called a double edge sword. Double edge swords are mostly used on broad, straight swords. It is mainly use for cutting or thrusting. A sword is the combination of hand grip and a long metallic bar with sharp edges.
A sword is the traditionally historical weapon which has high prestige. It is basically a symbol of power, fight and safety for its owner. Evolution of swords is very interesting. From the known facts, it is believed that sword were develop in the early bronze age. Basically these were knives or daggers. One meter long swords were developed in Romans era. In early modern period of 17th century, long pointed and sharp swords called rapier were invented. In 19th and 20th century use of swords reduced to the status of sports equipment and ceremonial weapons. Evolution of swords in Iron age, Romans, East Asian, Middle ages,South Asian and Modern ages are of different types.
In Sikh history, the sword is held in very high esteem. A single-edged sword is called a Kirpan, and its double-edged counterpart a Khanda or Tega. The blades of double edged sword may have a long narrow furrow cut such as fullers, which not only lighten the blades but also retain its strength and stiffness. Blades of double edged sword may also diminish sharply or slowly towards a point for the purpose of thrusting the opponent.
